Pupil and Sports Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
At The Southwater Infant Academy all of our children are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals, however, the Government is giving money to schools to help all children do their best. This funding is called ‘Pupil Premium Funding’. This additional funding allows us to provide an even better education for your child through the purchase of additional resources or staff to support learning across the academy. Pupil Premium funding is available for all children known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) either currently or within the last 6 years (Ever 6), children from service families (SC) and for those who are looked after (LAC). We will be able to claim valuable ‘pupil premium funding’ if you are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support from National Asylum Support Service (NASS) under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
- The Guaranteed element of state Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit only, provided your annual household income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) does not exceed £16,190. Anyone entitled to Working Tax Credit is not entitled to free meals regardless of income
- Working Tax Credit “Run-on” – (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for WTC).
- Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get).
The funding could be used to provide uniform for your child, pay for school trips, help provide extra support with learning in school, pay for some after school or breakfast clubs to name a few.
Registration is strictly confidential and this does not affect any other benefits you may already be claiming.
Please find an application form here or telephone West Sussex County Council on 0330 222 5555 or email fsm@westsussex.gov.uk. Applications can be made at any time during the year, however if you are eligible for Pupil Premium, please apply as soon as possible. Alternatively you can come in and speak to an academy staff member in confidence at any time.
Pupil Premium in The Southwater Infant Academy 2023/24
The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those who are looked after by the Local Authority and children of armed service personnel. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment. In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools by the number of children receiving free school meals, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received, how it is used and the impact of any work done.
Please view our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement 2023/24 below.
Sports Premium in The Southwater Infant Academy 2023/24
The Sport Premium is an allocation of additional funding given to schools to support the development of Physical Education, School Sport and Competition. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received and how this is being used, as well as the impact this is having on pupils.
